The client managed vendor relationships across 23 manufacturing partners in China through email, WeChat, and spreadsheets. Every purchase order, sample request, and quality issue lived in someone’s inbox. When that person was out sick or left the company, the entire communication history went with them. Translation errors on spec sheets led to production runs of the wrong Pantone color match, the wrong neck finish, the wrong PCR content percentage.
Production scheduling lived in Excel. Machine run times, cycle times, and downtime were logged by hand at the end of each shift. By the time management saw the numbers, the problems were three days old. OEE calculations were done monthly by one person who understood the spreadsheet. Nobody else could replicate it.
